Andy Mayerl was born in 1973 in Innsbruck. He´s been living and working in Vienna since 2009. His musical journey began at the age of 13 with the bands THE LITTLE BEATLES and KORIPRESS.

​

He received his education at the Tyrolean State Conservatory in Innsbruck (classical double bass), the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz (Jazz double bass, bachelor´s degree), and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (electric bass, master´s degree). Bands like BEATSTREET, GEORG RINGSDWANDL, and the EUROPEAN JAZZ YOUTH ORCHESTRA took him early on to neighboring Germany and across much of Europe.

 

His musical versatility and the combination of double bass and electric bass made him a highly sought-after bassist in the fields of Pop, Rock, Jazz, Music theater and Musical.

Since 2008, he has been a regular member of the musical ensemble in numerous productions at the Theater in der Josefstadt Vienna.

 

In 2006, he began his career as an author, publishing 14 instructional books so far, with his book BASS UNLIMITED topping bestseller lists throughout the German-speaking world.

 

Andy has been teaching electric bass, Jazz double bass, ensemble playing and music theory at Austrian music schools for 25 years, offers private lessons and regularly leads workshops and training courses.
